On Wednesday 8th July, the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak announced an immediate ‘Stamp Duty Holiday’ raising the threshold for paying stamp duty from £125,000 to £500,000. The ‘holiday’ will last until 31st March 2020. That’s £0 stamp duty to pay on properties up to £500,000 and a saving of £15,000 on property purchases above £500,000.
